We finally saw cloud cover yesterday and had some great nymph fishing throughout the day. Hoppers were a little bit slower with the lack of sun, but we had a few more match the hatch fishing opportunities. There is a smattering of all kinds of bugs out there; PMD’s, BWO’s, Tan Caddis, Black Caddis, Hoppers, Ants & Beetles. Fish are eating on top throughout the river you just have to figure out what they are eating on a case by case basis.
The fish have a large buffet of bugs to eat underneath right now. Scuds, sowbugs, pmd’s, cased caddis, worms, sally nymphs and midges. A pink scud or sowbug with a slender mayfly nymph underneath has been the most consistent rig that I have found over the past few days. At the same time you need to seine the water, pump stomachs and get dialed in on the exact water you are fishing at the time for the best results. Each run can have it’s own subtle nuances.
