Bighorn River Dry Fly Action

Hopefully the last snowstorm of the year move through the valley yesterday.  While the weather has been all over the place the fishing has been great.  The extended forecast shows a major warm up heading our way.

The dry fly action continues to pick up each day. Today started with some light over cast with a bit of snow but calm conditions. Fish were rising early on midges, and baetis started mixing in around lunch time and continued into mid-afternoon at which point, more midges came along. The flats have had quite a few fish up on the surface. With our current low flows precise casts are required. Good drifts get rewarded.

Thor’s Cripple, CDC Comparadun, BWO Sipper Emerger for baetis. CDC Midge, Hanging Midge and CDC Transitional Midge for midges.

Come into the shop and check out the Orvis Helios 2 and Mirage reels. The 4wt and 5wt mid-flex are great Bighorn dry fly rods.
