The past few years, this is generally the time of year where we experience lake turnover and excessive amounts of grass.  Thanks to the cold water temps and low flows this Summer, the river is in the best shape we have seen in years!  Sure, there’s a bit of grass around on the lower river, but not enough to hinder your fish catching abilities.  Read more...

The Bighorn continues to impress us with how long it’s giving us good fishing this Summer/Fall.

Good numbers of Black Caddis and Tan Caddis along with Psuedos have fish looking up as long, as it’s not too windy.  The fish have not been pushovers and are well educated at this point in the season, but plenty of big ones are available. Read more...

We’re still looking good out here on the Bighorn.  The entire river has been fishing well, besides the slight water adjustments going on.  Flows are up around 1900 CFS and just a bit of salad drifting around with the flow increase.  Water temps are still in the high 40’s – mid 50’s. Read more...

Overall, the river has been fishing well, although there are some moments of ‘off and on’ fishing.  We’re definitely seeing a transition period as we’re moving into early Fall and the river did just bump up almost 200 CFS since yesterday.   Still pretty busy overall, so if you don’t like people, wait till November.. Fishing has been very solid lately on the Horn’.  Plenty of PMD’s and increasing numbers of Black Caddis have fish looking up throughout most of the day.  The fish are definitely way more technical than they have been, but plenty of targets to test your skills.  There’s a great PMD spinner fall on the upper river at about 9 most mornings, followed by the main PMD emergence by noon or so.  Read more...

PMD madness continues on the Bighorn.  If you want to see the Bighorn in its prime dry fly glory, this is the time.  From about noon till dark, you will be able to find consistent heads up and plenty of bugs.  We’re seeing a handful of Caddis, especially below 3 Mile.  Read more...

It’s finally happening out here!  Great hatches of PMD’s, Black Caddis and even a few Tan Caddis are going on right now.  If you like ‘techy’ dry fly fishing for big fish, this is the time to be here!  Early afternoon – Dark will have plenty of targets up to fish to. Read more...

It’s almost there folks!  Water temps appear to be warming up just a bit more (high 40’s/low 50’s) as July keeps plugging along.  We’re seeing fish starting to move up into some of the faster shelves and more of an abundance of PMD nymphs.  There are a handful of PMD adults around and a good number of large Baetis as well.  Read more...

We’re getting closer, but water temps need to come up just a bit.  Flows are still stable at 1750-1800 CFS and the river remains Gin clear with some drifting vegetables below 3 Mile.  Keep your flies clean and the fish will eat them!

A couple of PMD’s around, but not the main push yet.  Read more...
