Early Winter Bighorn River Report

Early Winter Bighorn River Report

November 6, 2018 5:34 pm Published by Leave your thoughts

We are entering one of the best times of the year to be on the Bighorn.  The crowds are gone, hatches of BWO’s are plentiful, streamer fishing is getting good and the birds are showing up!

Our first cold snap hit today and usually turns the river around.  Our Bighorn trout realize winter will soon be here and get heavy on the feed schedule.  No fish spawning yet, but should be just around the corner.

Thick hatches of Fall Baetis on cloudy days have A LOT of fish looking up.  They are not too picky right now, which has been a nice break from the late season Trico and Pseudo fish.  Any 18-20 cdc bugs will get the job done.

Streamer fishing is just starting to get good and will get even better toward the end of the month.  The Bighorn Trout are still on the smaller black or olive pattern program.  The ol’ Bighorn Bugger will be hard to beat soon as well.

Water clarity is still not ideal, although it is improving daily.  The grass has really cleared out and expect it to get better with this cold weather ahead of us.

OFF SEASON RATES ARE IN EFFECT, SO GIVE US A CALL TO EXPERIENCE THE BIGHORN AT ITS FINEST! (AND MOST AFFORDABLE!)
