We got word yesterday that flows will reduced 6500k by Wednesday. This is great news. A perfect level for wading and just about everything on the Bighorn. Let’s just hope they don’t ramp it up again. If you haven’t booked your summer trip to the Bighorn, you might want to as prime dates are filling up and the fishing is going to be awesome!
The Black Caddis keep getting thicker and thicker. Evening is still the time to go, while mid day fishing on the surface is just starting to take off. Some fish are pushovers, while some are strictly zoned into pupa and feeding just under the surface. Have a variety of Black Caddis patterns on hand. We were on the lower river (Bighorn to Mallards) the other day and saw a handful of PMD’s and Sallies. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
For the nymphing game, the fish have finally started focusing on caddis pupa and not just sowbugs. A Tan Softhackle Ray with a Poodle sniffer is a hard combo to beat right now. We had some guide reports from yesterday afternoon on the upper 3 and the fish were crushing pupa.
