Frigid temps on the Bighorn are not keeping anglers away at all. The fishing has been pretty solid, so might as well get out and fish, right? Our browns are in full spawn mode, so be careful not to walk across the clean gravel spots and give these guys a break. We know it’s easy pickin’s for these guys but there are plenty of other fish to target.
Expect a few fish up here and there with the odd Baetis appearing and quite a few midges around. Not really enough to make a drive down here just to fish dries, but enough to mix up fishing options during the day.
The nymphing has been very good, especially on the upper 3. Orange Scuds, SH Ray Charles (tan, pink 16-18), SH Sowbugs (pink 16-18), LBF’s, Zebras (black, red), Firebead anythings are all great options. Lots of fish moving back into their winter/early spring lies. Use a bit more weight and keep your bugs clean!
Streamer fishing has been pretty awesome lately. Definitely a lot of chasers, and not as many committing fish, but it’s still pretty fun! No particular bug has been better than the other. Some guys say black, some say white… It’s your pick.
We are still open everyday and offer lodging, rental boats and guide trips at winter rates. Give us a call for more details! 406.666.2233
