Mid March Bighorn River Report

Spring conditions are making their way to the Bighorn and many folks are coming out to take advantage. Overall the fishing has been pretty good, but not fantastic. The water temps are still very cold, so winter-like conditions are still abound. Avoid the weekends as the crowds are starting to show up. Weekdays are pretty low key.

Only a few weeks left for our Spring Guide Trip and Rental Boat Specials too!

  • $325 Full Day Guide Trips (through March 25)
  • $99 Boat Rentals (through Apr 15)
The days of frozen reels are just about gone…

Nymphing with Sowbugs and Midges are the primary means of catching fish. Any pink or light tan sowbug in about a 16-18 with either a Red Midge Larva or Black Zebra is a hard combo to beat right now. We have a lot of new Sowbug patterns in the shop now, so come get some!

Streamer fishing is still pretty mediocre until we get an increase in water temps. Keep it small, dark and deep! A lot of fish are still out in the middle river trenches, so don’t spend too much time on the riffles and banks (the same goes for nymphing).
