Fishing on the Bighorn has been nothing short of fantastic. The crowds are gone (we only saw 1 other boat at 3 mile yesterday) and the fish are eating like crazy. However, the window of opportunity is getting smaller as we have our early winter weather systems moving through, so get out and fish!
Trico fishing in the upper 4 or 5 miles of river has been pretty ridiculous. There is a huge emergence about 9:00 AM followed by a good spinner fall late morning/early afternoon. Fall Baetis finish out the rest of the day and tan and black caddis are still around in decent numbers. Expect most bugs to stick around through the end of the month.
For the streamer junkies, this is the time to fish. The fish are aggressive and realize winter is right around the corner. A wide variety of patterns are getting fish but we like white and natural colored bugs like Zonkers, Circus Peanuts and Crystal Buggers.
Nymphing- it’s always good. Standard fare. Not much has changed.
We are around the shop everyday from 7:30 – 4 or 5. Phone calls will always be answered or returned, despite ghost town – like conditions in Fort Smith right now.
