Bighorn River Fishing Report 11/2

BA Shop Manager Austin with a great brown caught on a Rusty Trombone

We’re closing in on winter in the Bighorn Valley, but you wouldn’t think so with the awesome weather we’ve had!  The river is still a bit ‘off’, with green water and a healthy amount of grass breaking free.  The streamer crowd is here and doing well, for the most part.  Nymphing has been a bit hit and miss, but picking up fish throughout the day.  If you enjoy light crowds and great weather, this is a good time to be here.

Top streamers this past week have been Jig Thin Mints, Grinches, Rusty Trombones, Pete’s Buggers, Goldies and Lil’ Kims.  A sink tip this time of year is necessary as the fish are in the ‘trenches’ or guts of the runs.

Orange Scuds, Worms and Carpet Bugs are about all you need for nymphing.  Deep, heavier rigs are getting it done where there isn’t grass growing.
