Bighorn River Fishing Report 7/12

The River is currently running at 2,200 cfs, which is considered low flow conditions for this time of year. Word on the street is that it could go even lower.  Water clarity remains excellent throughout most of the river, though anglers should be aware that there’s still a significant amount of moss present in the lower sections.

Nymphing remains the most productive technique. The most effective nymph patterns right now include Frenchies, Carpet Bugs, Split Case PMD nymphs, and Tailwater Sowbugs.

Based on current conditions and water temperatures, the PMD’s should begin in earnest within the next week. Once this hatch kicks off, expect to see more surface activity and dry fly opportunities throughout the day.  Should be soon!!

It’s been busy as the Summer crowds are here, so please give other anglers their room and be respectful.
