Bighorn River Fishing Report 9/2

What a great Summer season it’s been and it’s not over yet!  We’re rolling into the month of September strong – Caddis are very abundant throughout the whole system.  We’re seeing the largest bug activity on the upper 6 miles or so of the river.  The river is staying clear and cool, which the Bighorn trout are really liking!

There’s been some great Caddis activity in the morning (9-11 AM), for some unknown reason, and then again from late afternoon till dark.  Black Caddis are dominant but we are seeing a good amount of the big Tans as well.   There are a few PMD’s lingering and some fish are still dialed in on the spinners.

The nymphing has been excellent throughout the whole river.  Orange Scuds, Tailwater Sows, Carpet Bugs, Poodle Sniffers, TNT PMDs, Split Cases, Hare’s ears and PT’s are getting the job done.  The worm bite is just starting and should get better and better with the grass growth.

We still have some availability for guided packages this month, so don’t miss out on an epic season full of big fish!
