Bighorn River Fishing Report

Another worm, another fish

Fish are still eating worms and sow bugs in a big way. Red, wine and regular brown have been really effective the past couple of days. Gray sow bugs are working really well, but the tan soft hackle, especially the fire bead version, are also very effective.

Fishing to the bank is pretty effective in a lot of areas but those fish have seen a lot of flies now. A number of fish have moved out a little ways so if you aren’t getting them on the bank, slide the boat in tight and fish out to faster water. The speed of some water that fish are sitting might surprise you, but the water temperature is now in the mid fifties.

For those that want to experiment, some fish sitting close to the bank have been eating whatever terrestrials that have ended up on the water. Maybe try a beetle/ant combo in shallow fast water next to the banks.

Sow bugs are hot too
