Bighorn River Fishing Report 3/13/24

Phil C. with a very solid brown below 3 Mile

The river is finally waking up and we’re seeing some excellent fishing!  The river is in fantastic shape and flows are right around 3000 cfs.  It was a busy weekend and expect the trend to continue!  We had some guide trips out this past week and they did very well and reported a lot of 16-20″ fish as the norm.  Lots of rainbows in the system this year!

The Bighorn is running a bit warmer than normal for this time of year, so we’re seeing decent numbers of Baetis and lots of Midges already.  Many locals are saying this could be the best Spring dry fly fishing we’ve had in a while.  It should keep getting better!

Underneath, the fish are still liking Pink Sows and Scuds.  With the plethora of Midges and Baetis, small patterns like Zebras, LBF’s, Quills and Perdigons are catching lots of fish right now.

The streamer folks have reported good fishing with WHITE being a dominant color.  There are some big fish willing to move right now with the right conditions!
