Bighorn Fishing Report 4/28
Anglers on the Bighorn are finding exceptional opportunities as we transition into spring, with current flows running unusually low and clear, creating perfect sight-fishing conditions throughout the system.
The highly anticipated Baetis hatch appears to be just days away as water temperatures steadily climb, so be prepared for some exciting dry fly action very soon. We’re seeing a few fish up here and there, but nothing to set the watch to.
Nymphing continues to produce consistent results with larger sowbug patterns (#14-16), alongside smaller midge and Baetis nymphs (#18-20). Cotton Candies, Yum Yum Sows, Softhackle Rays, Silver Bullets, Graveyard Midges and Tailwater Sows have been the guides’ pick this week.
Streamer fishing has been somewhat unpredictable, with occasional aggressive takes during early mornings and overcast conditions, but generally requiring more persistence than usual to find willing fish. .
