Bighorn Fishing Report 7/27

If you caught our last report, you know the Bighorn was starting to turn a corner—and we are happy to share that the momentum is continuing right into a true, classic Bighorn summer. Flows are holding steady at 1,500 cfs, and the river is fishing the way we love to see it.

As an update to what we’ve been seeing on the water over the last few days, black caddis are now making a solid appearance down in the 3-to-B section. While PMDs are definitely around, they aren’t out in massive numbers just yet, mainly due to water temps staying cooler than normal coming from the Afterbay.  We also haven’t had much hopper activity to report, but there is the odd fishing looking for them…

Because of that, the name of the game is still subsurface. Nymphing remains your absolute best bet. For the most consistent action, lead your rig with a Tailwater Sowbug or a Carpet Bug, and trail it with a Frenchie, a split-case PMD, or your favorite PMD-themed nymph.

The river is in great shape and the fish are cooperating. Stop by the shop to check your boxes, and we’ll see you out on the water!
