Bighorn River Fishing Report 11/11
We’re getting closer to clear water on the Bighorn. We still have some green water coming out of the Afterbay, but it appears to be clearing as you head downstream. The grass has been breaking off with the cooler nights and expect it to be around for another couple/few weeks for sure. A bit busier on the weekends with this nice weather, but you can still find plenty of good spots to get out and get some fish!
The streamer bite continues to be pretty solid. A lot of our fish are out in the big deep nymph runs, so a long sink tip is necessary. You’ll get a few off the banks, but with the cooling water temps, you’re better off ‘dredging’ the center of the runs. Jig Thin Mints, Grinches, Rusty Trombones, 9 Lb Hammers and Goldies are about all you need right now.
The nymphing has been fairly steady, but not on fire by any means. Orange Scuds, THE WORM, Carpet Bugs, Red bead Rays and Tailwater sows continue to produce.
No signs of steady rising fish on Baetis or Psuedos. You’ll see some little pickle fish messing around here and there, but until the water clears, expect dry fly fishing to be put on the backburner for a bit.
