Bighorn River Fishing Update 4/5
Despite fluctuating weather conditions, fishing continues to be productive with light crowds and the river in excellent condition, though water temperatures remain somewhat cold.
Effective nymph patterns this week include Cotton Candies, Jellybeans, Tailwater Sows, Copper Zebras, Green Weenies, UV Scuds, Silver Bullets, LBF’s and Pill Poppers.
Streamer fishing has been quite good, particularly as water temperatures rise later in the day. Productive streamer patterns include Blondies, Goldies, Rusty Trombones, leeches, and various little buggers.
We’re now seeing increased Baetis hatches on the lower river, though fish have not yet begun rising to them.
Be aware that Soap Creek and Rotten Grass are currently introducing muddy water into parts of the river system. Consider focusing on clearer sections or using more visible patterns when fishing near these tributaries.
