Bighorn River Fishing Update July 6

We hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!  It’s been pretty quiet traffic wise here on the Bighorn.  We’ll see the Summer crowds showing up here about mid month.  The river continues to fish pretty well, even with cold (low – mid 40’s) water temps.  The clarity on the Bighorn is unreal right now too!  Flows are at 5200 CFS as of today and probably will drop a bit more at some point.

Carpet Bugs 14-16, Softhackle Rays, Orange Scuds, Rainbow Sows and various worms are still producing good numbers of fish and BIG ones.

The dry fly fishing is fairly non existent at the moment.  With these cooler than normal temps, expect PMD’s and maybe some Caddis by the end of the month.  Hoppers maybe sooner…

The Streamer bite has been pretty fun lately as many fish are sitting on the insides of runs making them easily approachable and vulnerable from the boat.  Pete’s Buggers, Lil Kims, T&A’s, Mini Dungeons, Sparkle Minnows and Thin Mints are good ones to have.
