Bighorn River Fishing Update June 18

Cold and low flows are still the name of the game on the Bighorn.  It looks like we’ll be sitting at the 1750 CFS mark for quite some time.  The good news is our river is staying clear and water temps in the mid 40’s.  Still a fair amount of moss below 3 Mile, so keep your bugs clean!

It’s definitely a ‘techy’ game out there right now.  Shorter, lighter nymph rigs and smaller patterns (Zebras, Rootbeer Midges, Graveyards, PT’s and a handful of your favorite Sowbugs).  There is some good sight fishing right now as the fish are starting to move up into the shelves.

The rainbows have pretty much wrapped up their spawn and we’re starting to see better numbers of them back in the main runs.  There are sure plenty of 18-20+” fish this season!  In another couple weeks we should be moving more into ‘Summer mode’ as PMD’s should be showing up and more and more hoppers are around.
