Bighorn River Report July 25

The Perri boys with a sweet brown caught on a dry

It’s real close to go time folks!  Increasing numbers of PMD’s and Caddis in the early afternoon signal it could break loose any day now.  Water temps are in the mid 40’s early in the morning and approaching low 50’s throughout much of the lower end of the river.  There are no closures or ‘Hoot Owl’ restrictions on the Bighorn right now! It’s busy out here, but with the amount of large fish we’re catching, I don’t blame people for being here right now!

We’re seeing good numbers of fish on nymphs like Carpet Bugs, Red Bead Rays, Frenchies, Split Case PMDs and various other PMD nymph patterns.  The fish are really starting to move into some heavier shallow water to feed late morning, so there are a lot of spots to find them right now.

A few fish being caught on hoppers.  Stick with it and you’ll be rewarded, maybe..
