July 4th Weekend Bighorn Fishing Update
July 4, 2020 1:12 pm Leave your thoughtsThe flow on the Bighorn has settled in at 4000 CFS. The fish seem to be pretty happy about it and overall the fishing has really picked up.
It appears that the fish are not dialed in on the tiny (20 and 22) Midge and Baetis nymph patterns as much as they were, and are turning in favor towards bigger Sowbugs. Sure, you can still pick up some fish on the little stuff, but that’s no fun. Carpet Bugs, Eddie Vedders and SH Rays (14-16) have all been picks of our guides. We’ve even had some reports of fish dialed in on PMD and Caddis nymphs.
Expect the drifting algae to be cut down as well since the river has stayed at a consistent flow.
PMD’s, Caddis and hoppers are just around the corner….
It’s not too busy over the next week, so this is a good time to get on the Bighorn before the summer crowds do!
Enjoy your 4th of July weekend and be safe!!
