Bighorn River Fishing Report 9/24

Fall is slowly sneaking into the Bighorn valley as we near the end of our busy season.  Fishing has been good, but certainly more ‘on and off’ days lately.  Lots of Tricos still around, but the fish seem to be more content feeding subsurace.  Cool night-time temps has the grass breaking off, otherwise the river is still looking good.

There are certainly ‘windows’ of feeding activity right now.  For nymphing, the standard patterns have been Frenchies, Worms (Squirmies, wire and chenille), sunk Tricos, Psuedo nymphs, and various smaller (16-18) Sowbugs (Carpet Bugs/Rays).

The Streamer fishing is for sure picking up and your cloudy and low light times of the days will produce some good fishing.  Rusty Trombones, Goldies, Mini D&D’s, Lil’ Kim’s and Thin Mints are the goods.

If you are looking for lots of rising fish, this is not the greatest time to visit the Bighorn, pretty slim pickins’.
