Last April Weekend Bighorn River Update
Flows came up a bit the past couple days and we’re now at 3500 cfs. As expected, water temps dipped a bit more but the fish continue to look up. It’s getting busier out there and the traffic is spread out. It’s still fishing a little spotty overall, but it’s good once you find them. Read more...
Mid April Bighorn River Fishing Report
It’s just about there! I know I keep saying this every week, but it really is this time. We had a couple really solid days this past week with good amounts of fish looking up for Baetis. Fishing overall was pretty solid this past week and will continue to get better when (if) the water starts warming up. Read more...
BA Top Fly Picks – Baetis Nymphs
Anglers and guides on the Bighorn look forward to the excellent Spring emergences of Baetis as it is the first hatch to get our fish on the heavy feed. We are on the path for a normal Spring season with low, clear water and excellent hatches soon to come. In the past week, our Bighorn trout have really become aware of the abundant Baetis nymphs in the late mornings and afternoons and are now a ‘must have’ pattern on your nymph rig. Read more...
Bighorn River Spring Condition Update
There is still some time to go as far gathering our Spring water content in the Bighorn Valley. Currently, the Bighorn River System snowpack is at 97% of normal. This is the number we like to see! On the upper drainages (Wyoming), we’re sitting just above normal. Late season precipitation can all change these, but we are looking really good at the moment. Read more...
Mid Spring Bighorn River Report
We’re just about there folks. Increasing numbers of Baetis are abound and a few more fish are looking up. Water temps are still cooler than normal for this time of year, but the fish are ready to transition into Spring mode. Any day now!
On another positive note, we are still on track for a NORMAL WATER YEAR! Read more...
First of April Bighorn River Update
Things have quieted down a bit this past week. There are still a handful of folks around, but it will be ramping up here in about a week. Fishing remains solid, and right now is a matter of finding the fish vs. pattern selection. We had a slight bump in water a few days back and water temps dropped just a bit, keeping our fish in the slower winter-like runs. Read more...

Mid March Bighorn River Report
Spring conditions are making their way to the Bighorn and many folks are coming out to take advantage. Overall the fishing has been pretty good, but not fantastic. The water temps are still very cold, so winter-like conditions are still abound. Avoid the weekends as the crowds are starting to show up. Read more...
Early March Bighorn River Update
Well, it’s almost here. Spring, that is. The boat ramps are clear(ish) and people are starting to come out of the woodwork to experience some pretty good fishing. The word on the Bighorn fish so far – less numbers, bigger fish. I’ll take that, and I think many of you will as well. Read more...
