Finally, a nice break in the weather!

Fishing is still good for many sticking to the typical winter runs.  Pink has been the color of choice for nymphs so make sure you have plenty of Cotton Candys, Jellybeans and Pink Softhackle Sowbugs.  Dropping a black Zebra, Red Midge Larva or any other small dark midge off the back end will be good as well.  Read more...

The Bureau of Reclamation has recently released the first installment of the snow and moisture forecast for the Bighorn watershed.  You can read it HERE.  It’s looking good for now, but we all know how that’s gone in the past…  Right now we’re on the right track for lower Spring flows, as long as we don’t have some catastrophic snow event, which we have to remember, it is Montana and there is a lot of winter left! Happy New Year from the Bighorn Angler!  We’re looking forward to 2020 to being a better year as the fish and fishery are in great shape. The fishing has been as good as it gets for winter fishing!  As long as I don’t break my ankle or something else this year, I’ll call it a success! Read more...

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend!  Those who came out to the Bighorn valley were rewarded with some solid fishing and hunting (at least we took advantage of it!).  Back into the 40’s this next week and should be a great time to get out and fish.

The Baetis have been going strong and consistent for about 2 weeks now.  Expect to see some noses poking up around 1:00 or so and fish will be up until around 4:00.   Read more...

We’re nearing the end of a great, but interesting season on the Bighorn and getting prepared for some excellent late Fall/early Winter fishing.  Overall, it’s a ghost town out there most days but the fish are very willing to EAT!

Nymphing has really picked up and now is a good time to start sticking some of those big fish we have in the river this year as they are in peak shape.   Read more...

It’s getting quiet around these parts, but the fishing seems to be picking up a bit more each week or so.  Flows are down at 2800 CFS from the Afterbay boat ramp repairs, which is another story, and should be there until sometime this next week, where they’ll likely bump back up to the 3200-3500 range.   Read more...

Fishing is starting to pick up just a bit on the Bighorn.  Low night temps have helped cool the water a bit and the fish seem to be a little more interested in eating.  The crowds are down for the season and the weather is great!

Subsurface fishing is the way to go.   Read more...
