It’s been a little bit since I’ve posted an update, but good news is not much has changed!  The Bighorn is in prime Winter shape.  Gin clear, fantastic clarity and cold water temps.  The weather lately has been insanely nice, so of course more than a few folks are taking advantage of it.  Read more...

The Bighorn has finally cleared and fishing is great!  A few folks around, but not too bad.  Our Bighorn Brown Trout are in full spawn mode so please stay off the redds!

Nymphing with BIG Sowbugs, Squirmies and Orange Scuds are still about all you need.

Our water temps have finally dipped into the high 30’s, which is on par for this time of year.  The fish seem to be adjusting to this as the fishing definitely hasn’t been ‘lights out’ by any means.  Pick the non windy, warmer days and you’ll enjoy your time!

It’s mainly a nymph deal right now with the standard Winter fare – Carpet Bugs, Cotton Candy, Graveyard Midges, Zebra Midges and various other Sowbug/Midge patterns.  Read more...

It looks like we’re entering that time of the year where the river conditions aren’t optimal, but the fish are handling it pretty well!  Bighorn Lake has turned and we’re seeing the infamous green water throughout most of the upper river.  Once you’re down below about the Bighorn Club, clarity has been noticeably better.  Read more...

The Bighorn is a great place to be right now!  Great Fall foliage, hungry fish and the crowds are down (most days).  We’re starting to see a bit of the lake turnover after this past cold snap and the slight bump in river flow.  The fish don’t seem to mind though! Read more...

The Bighorn continues to impress us with how long it’s giving us good fishing this Summer/Fall.

Good numbers of Black Caddis and Tan Caddis along with Psuedos have fish looking up as long, as it’s not too windy.  The fish have not been pushovers and are well educated at this point in the season, but plenty of big ones are available. Read more...

Overall, the river has been fishing well, although there are some moments of ‘off and on’ fishing.  We’re definitely seeing a transition period as we’re moving into early Fall and the river did just bump up almost 200 CFS since yesterday.   Still pretty busy overall, so if you don’t like people, wait till November.. PMD madness continues on the Bighorn.  If you want to see the Bighorn in its prime dry fly glory, this is the time.  From about noon till dark, you will be able to find consistent heads up and plenty of bugs.  We’re seeing a handful of Caddis, especially below 3 Mile.  Read more...

It’s finally happening out here!  Great hatches of PMD’s, Black Caddis and even a few Tan Caddis are going on right now.  If you like ‘techy’ dry fly fishing for big fish, this is the time to be here!  Early afternoon – Dark will have plenty of targets up to fish to. Read more...
