Bighorn River Fishing update June 29

Things are heading in the right direction on the Bighorn.  The majority of rainbows have moved off their redds and back into the main runs making for plenty of shots at big fish.  River clarity is superb and water temps are still in the mid 40’s, but we are still having to fish through some moss, especially below 3 Mile. We’ve got a little break in the action from the busy Spring crowds.  Still a few folks around, but fishing has been up and down.  It’s transition time on the Bighorn, which means fizzling out Spring hatches, rainbows finishing up the spawn and getting ready for the awesome Summer ahead of us.  Read more...

Bighorn River update June 2

Summer got here quick!  Temps up in the mid 90’s this week should make things interesting…  Despite the weather, the Bighorn remains cold, clear and low.  We’re seeing a fair amount of drifting moss below 3 Mile, making for some tricky fishing down there, but if you keep your bugs clean, they’ll eat (that’s the theory at least).  Read more...

The Bighorn has been very consistent lately.  Consistent in the fact that the fishing is great one day, then tough the next.  The good news is there have been more good days than tough ones.  It’s been busy out there as everyone is looking to land some of the beastly fish coming out of the river.  Read more...

Bighorn River Fishing Report April 27

Fishing is really starting to pick up on the Bighorn.  Flows are up to 3200 CFS as of this morning and the river remains nice and clear.  It’s getting a bit busier out there, but still plenty of good spots to get into fish.

The Spring Baetis are  starting to make a big appearance and we’re seeing more and more fish on them daily.  Read more...

Bighorn River Fishing Update April 16

Recent colder weather reminds us that Spring in Montana can be cruel.  It also can result in great fishing, which is where things are headed.  The Spring Baetis are slowly growing in numbers and along with prevalent Midge hatches, it’s getting closer to one of our favorite dry fly seasons of the year.  Read more...
